I convert money into art using the Visual Artists Rights Act (VARA) with the performance piece Twenty Dollars. Interested patrons supply twenty dollars in cash which is then affixed to three pieces of paper—handmade from pulped shredded currency. The title is embossed on the cover page, on the second is an excerpt from VARA, and on the third is an attestation that the work is of a recognized stature.

The completed work of art is then returned to the patron. However, they can no longer spend the money without violating my permanent property rights in the artwork.
