Inspired by a collection of travelogues to Mecca, The Stages of the Hajj is a formal translation of the Muslim pilgrimage. On each page is a geometric representation of an obligatory activity of the hajj with a succinct description. There are two exceptions: the repose at Mt. Arafat is symbolized by a small pop-up ridge spanning the length of the page and a small square of paper tipped onto the page for the donning of the ihram. The covers are printed with a design from the Alhambra.
